started getting real bad shoulder pain when doing any pressing exercises. The funny thing is the heavier I lift the better it feels. But I can feel something is not right. It's really starting to have an impact on my workouts. Anybody know what kind of doctor I should see for this problem?

i have shoulder pain too. it makes any type of bench a real bitch. my pain comes and goes. i do know for a fact that if i sleep either lying on my arm or with my arm up under my head my shoulder seems to become more agitated. there for a try and sleep on my back and when i do my shoulder seems to stop hurting. i take glucosamine everyday its suppose to help your joints. i can say from when i played baseball it might just be inflamed and need rest. i went to a doc while in hs about my throwing shoulder pains and he would inject cortisone (sp?) and the pain would go away. from what i hear thats not good to do thought because it basically does nothing but make the pain go away and you my cause more damage.

and to answer your question just goto the regualr doc.

Yeah, it's hard to diagnosis a shoulder problem over a forum...

I would personally recommend a reputable ART (Active Release Therapy) therapist who weight trains himself so he can relate to your problems...

It sounds like a AC (acromio clavicular) joint seperation...

It could even been a slipped disc in the C4-C5 region causing impingement on the nerve that supplies that shoulder region...

ART therapist or expert chiro could help also. Good luck!

I get shoulder pains when i'm doing benchpress of any sort. But I was thinking about going to a doctor, but I wondered could it be because of my form and if so can I correct it? Because sometimes it doesn't hurt at all and I get good lifts, other times it's so sore I can only do a few reps. Any idea what could cause this?

Is it a pain going through your medial deltoid following straight down your arm?

Thats about where my pain is. But unlike crazy eyes it allways hurts unless I go heavy. I do 225lbs. for a warm up and it is unbareable pain, but when I slap on 315lbs. I can't feel it until after my set. I got an appointment with an oerthopedic doctor on the 17th

i went to see an orthopedic surgeon who set me up with therapy(after an MRI) for a few weeks with a anit-inflamatory med to heal internal. after that i still had the same pain and got the surgery a few months later. now one year later im going in for the other shoulder. fun

I get pain in the same area on my right arm. Maybe your form will change with heavier weight, try stretching alot before and during warmup. try positioning your elbows differently aswell that seems to help a bit with me.. its the lifting off the rack which does my shoulder damage.

Uh... I have a pretty narrow grip. I dont know if all standard bars are marked the same, but i keep my hands am extended thumbs length from where the notching on the bar starts. So I guess my hands are roughly 4, or 5 inches away from my chest each side? Hope that makes sense??

If your hands are outside your shoulder width i suggest you try bringing them in but if their already close and your having pain, might wanna get a professional opinion.

UPDATE.....I went to the doc. today., he said I had a form of bercidis. Inflamed muscle tissue. He gave me some anti-inflamitory meds. If that don't work in 3 weeks I get a cortisone shot. Then the next step is an MRI.But the x-rays didn't show a torn rotator cuff or anything so the news for now is good.
