Elias Petsas the bodybuilder that won the 1972 mR Univesrse. I am wondering what ever happened to him after winning the universe back in 1972. Did he go on to compete in the Olympia ? Did he retire??????????? What position did he come if he did compete in the Olympia. My Greek background has me interested in this man.

The messages that myself and the other gentleman were writting in was Grerk. The final message was defiunately not Greek - maybe slavic. I should apologise for leaving the non Greek spekaing people out of the conversation by typping in Greek and I will either speak to the gentleman in Greek in private only or english here from no onwards.

Well I saw the question about what happened to Elias Petsas and how the replies were written in Greek
I grew up in the same little town that Elias had a bakery (Vryburg)
As kids we use to peep through the windows in the bakery to see him
working out. He had his Gym in the back of the bakery
He also made the best bread

He was always my Idol. The town were very proud when he got Mr Universe in 1972 I believe

I will always remember how good he looked in a T-shirt.

Does anyone know where I can get some posters off him to put
in my Gym

I promise, I am totally aware that he is Greek but he stayed in Vryburg, I left
South Africa 9 years ago, so I do not know if he is still there.

To answer your question - somebody claiming to be him is saying above that he is from Roumelei and lives in South Afrika.

The above reads.

Hello my friend. I'm from Roumelei and I live in South Afrika. I know Petsa very well as thats me and I thank you for your interest. Winning the 72 Universe was my dream and I made it a gift to myself and after i continued and I still continue to do weights - of course not as I did previously (to the standard he once did) to keep myself in good shape. I am appreciative (about the emails etc etc) and I hope you are well - whereabouts are you?

You will notice that that was one big sentence as whoever wrote it wether elias petsas himself or somebody else did not put any full stops in there at all or commas lol

It sounds kind of real. He was always an introvert.
If he can tell you the street name where his bakery was/is in, then we know
But on the other hand, we do not want to harass him
Thankx for the translation

Swannier he said that the bakery was on Stella Street opposite the church.

Does this sound genuine ?

Sorry I only reply now, It is definitely him. He also had a Cafe's in Vryburg (lounce Cafe) I think it was.

I am so excited to hear he is still around, I am visiting South Africa in December and will pop into the Bakery, if it still exist

I have inlaws that have farms in the Vryburg District

You know, I was meaning to ask the last time this thread popped up again, how did you learn greek, MegaA?

17 Oct 2008 17:04
MegaA
Thanks for your question LIl bit. Greek was the first langauge I learnt as it was all I heard when I was at home. Folks came out to Australia in the 60's and their english was very very limited so the only language in the house I heard as a kid was Greek, conversations between my folks and relatives were and still are in their native tongue. Until this day thats the language my folks speak to one another in and I speak it on a daily basis. Not uncommon for people in Aus - exspecially Melbourne to speak Greek as Melbourne has about 10 per cent Greek population. I can therefor say I know two langauges but wish I knew a 3rd - maybe russian or italian so I can talk to the hot russian or italin chicks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
